Ariel Toews-Ricotta began her association with the Ypsilanti Community Choir by serving as guest conductor for our spring 2006 concert. Her appointment as Music Director came the following fall.
Ariel is an active conductor in southeast Michigan and currently serves as the Music Director of the Livonia Youth Choir and the Ypsilanti Emmanuel Lutheran Church Chancel Choir, in addition to her duties with the Ypsilanti Community Choir.
She holds a master’s degree in band and choral conducting from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree in flute performance from the University of Denver. In addition to her qualifications in music, Ariel also has a ballet background.
Ariel has served as conductor of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra, Music Director of the Celebration Youth Orchestra (now known as the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra); conductor of the Detroit Civic Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the youth orchestra program under the Detroit Symphony; and assistant conductor of the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra (now the Michigan Philharmonic).
In addition to conducting, Ariel maintains an active private flute studio, and she is a full-time nurse at U-M Hospital, having completed an accelerated BSN program at the University of Michigan in 2012.
